PROFILE
Ali Aziz is an Advocate of the High Court of Pakistan since 2012, and a Partner at Aziz & Co. Previously, he worked at Fazleghani Advocates from 2011-2020, under the tutelage of Makhdoom Ali Khan, as a Senior Associate.
After graduating from Karachi Grammar School, Ali Aziz completed a bachelors degree in Middle Eastern and Asian Languages and Cultures, along with a concentration in Pre-Medical, from Columbia University (2007), Ali earned his Legum Baccalaureus from University College London (2010) and Bar-at-Law from Lincoln’s Inn (2011). He further completed his Masters in Law, while working at Fazelghani Advocates, from the City Law School – City University London (2012).

He regularly appears before the High Courts and various administrative tribunals in Pakistan, including the Competition Appellate Tribunal, the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue, the Securities & Exchange Commission, the Banking Courts and the National Accountability Bureau.
During his time at Fazleghani Advocates, Ali built a substantial and diverse practice. His primary areas of practiceare tax litigation, commercial, regulatory disputes, constitutional law, arbitrations, intellectual property and labour law issues.

He has successfully appeared for and advised some of the largest groups and companies in Pakistan – including PARCO, NRL, ATRL, the Atlas group of companies, Indus Motor Company, Dawlance, Coca Cola, EBM, Engro Corporation and its sister concerns, ENI, IPGDL, MCB, Oxford University Press, PIA Investments Limited, PNSC, Pakistan Broadcasters Association, QICT, Habib Bank Limited, House of Habib, Reckitt Benckiser, Roche, Sitara group of companies, and Unilever among others – in major tax litigation and commercial and regulatory disputes.

Along with Fazleghani Advocates team, he has successfully represented major power producers in international arbitrations against the Government of Pakistan. He has also assisted Makhdoom Ali Khan, as junior chair, for Tethyan Copper Company Limited against the Government of Pakistan in the Reqo Diq international arbitration. Moreover, he was instrumental in successfully reversing the decision of the full member bench of the Lahore High Court before the Supreme Court of Pakistan to enable the completion of the Lahore Ring Road. Ali Aziz worked on various important constitutional matters in Pakistani law which included successfully arguing that WPPF and WWF labour laws were Federal and not Provincial subjects. Lastly, Ali Aziz has obtained over 200-300 stay orders in taxation matters for various clients. He has also played pivotal roles in the pivotal taxation matters such as Super Tax and Gas Infrastructure Development Cess.
